Anchor 72 Fire Retardant Marine Plywood

Fire: A Ruthless Destroyer

The primitive man was terrified by the devastating power of fire, and hence worshipped it. As his intelligence evolved, he recognized the enormous utility of fire, tamed that wild phenomenon, and invented various devices and appliances, to enhance the conveniences and comforts of his life.

However, in his pursuit of comfortable lifestyles the civilized man has also set up several death traps in all modern building, like ruptured wirings, carelessly fitted gas cylinders, improper handling of inflammable materials, lack of regard for and non-observance of essential safety rules etc., any of which can cause a devastating fire outbreak. When a major fire erupts, the strongest of structures are reduced to ashes, leaving a long trail of losses of human lives and property.

While the threat of fire in buildings is thus perpetual, fortunately, there are ways to ensure adequate protection to life and property by proper design of the exterior and interior structural elements and by the use of fire resistant materials.

Introducing Anchor 72 Fire Retardant Marine Plywood that combines durability with fire safety

Anchor 72 Fire Retardant Marine Plywood, the new All-in One Plywood from Anchor now is engineered to ensure protection not only from weather and wood destroying organisms, but also from fire hazards.

Ordinary Plywood burns easily

In the form of thin sheet materials, however, wood is highly combustible on account of its high surface area to volume ratio. For example, a thin veneer of wood burns easily. Plywood is likewise a relatively thin sheet material and hence tends to burn and spread fire rather easily depending upon the intensity of the fire.

However, plywood lends itself to impregnation with waterborne chemicals which impart to it high resistance to ignition, spread of flame and flame penetration.

Anchor 72 Fire Retardant Marine Plywood

Anchor 72 fire Retardant Marine Plywood combines the supreme durability of Anchor 72 Marine Plywood against weather and wood destroying organisms, with excellent fire resistance. It has the following superior features :

Use of selected hardwood veneers for high strength and stiffness.

BWP type Phenol bonding as per IS 710:1976, which makes the plywood withstand a rigorous 72 hour boiling test.

Impregnation with fixed type preservative chemicals by vacuum pressure process as per IS 710:1976, which imparts durability against rot, termites and wood boring beetles which cause the notorious "powder phenomenon" in building interior systems.

Impregnation with fire retardant chemicals by vacuum pressure process, to meet the requirements related to flammability, flame penetration and rate of burning as per IS 5509: 1980, the IS Specification for Fire Retardant Plywood.

Strict Quality Control, Testing and Inspection procedures supported by experienced technologists.

The most interesting characteristic of Anchor 72 Fire Retardant Marine Plywood is that it is unbelievably economical.

Fire Retardant Charecteristics as per IS 5509:1980.

Characteristics Requirements
Flammability When tested in accordance with IS 1734(Part 3):1983, the time taken for second ignition will not be less than 25 minutes.
Flame Penetration When tested in accordance with IS 1734(Part 3):1983, the time taken for penetration will not be less than 15 minutes for every 6 mm thickness.
Rate of burning When tested in accordance with IS 1734(Part 3):1983, the time taken to lose weight from 30 % to 70% will not be less than 20 minutes.
